Barnes and Noble Mini Maker Faire! November 5th/6th!
While we would all like to make it out to one of the big Maker Faires, like the World Maker Faire which was hosted last week in New York City, it’s just not always feasible. Lucky for us, the folks at Barnes and Noble are bringing the maker faire movement to thousands of people across the country this fall. On November 5th and 6th, Barnes and Noble stores will be hosting their 2nd annual Mini Maker Faires at all their stores nationwide.
According to Barnes and Noble’s website:
“The Mini Maker Faire at Barnes & Noble brings together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, engineers, science club members, students, entrepreneurs, hobbyists and Makers of all kinds to learn from each other, get craft ideas and science fair project ideas, hear the experts, and work on projects.”
Generally, each in-store Mini Maker Faire will have three main activity segments:

Maker Workspace where you can learn about the latest project machines such as 3D printers, robotic components, virtual reality devices and more!
- Meet the Makers Sessions where you can hear from local and national makers who are innovating in this space. Learn about the latest trends in making and what these folks are working on.
- Make and Collaborate section of the store will be set up where the stores will actually provide raw materials to make, create and construct mini projects.
It looks like this event is targeting all age groups and will provide fun learning activities for the entire family. So, whether you are just now learning about the maker movement or you have been tinkering for years, we definitely think you should check out this FREE event.

If you can’t make it to a Barnes and Noble this November, you can still participate in the maker movement this fall. The maker movement is all about inclusivity, all you need is an interest to get involved and start making! Here are a few ideas that you can do from anywhere!
- Host a Maker Party at Your Home

- Connect with Fellow Makers Online
Post photos of your latest maker projects to social media using hashtags such as #maker #diy #makerspace #makersgonnamake and more. For shorter projects consider using Facebook Live to stream the building experience to your followers around the globe.
- Start at Mini Maker Faire in Your Community
If you don’t have a Barnes and Noble or a mini maker faire near you, start the local movement yourself. Reach out to local businesses, your local library or school system to find people to partner up with to create your own maker community.
